What does a school day actually look like?

No bells, no busywork, no homework folder. Every minute has a purpose — and parents can see exactly how the day runs.

8:00–8:30

Morning Launch

Strategy games, mindset challenges, and creative warm-ups get students ready to focus — together, live.

8:30–11:00

Core Academics — 2 Focused Hours

Math, reading, language, science, and social studies, personalized to each student's exact level. Certified teachers are on screen the whole time, stepping in the moment a student gets stuck — with off-screen breaks built into the block.

11:00–12:00

Off-Screen Break

Lunch away from the computer. Ride a bike, shoot hoops, recharge.

12:00–2:00

Real-World Skill Workshops

Project-based workshops chosen by student demand — starting a business, designing games, publishing stories, mastering chess. This is where classmates become friends.

School's done by 2. Homework doesn't come home.

How can 2 hours be enough?

Because no minute is wasted re-teaching what your child already knows — or rushing past what they don't.

On day one we find each student's real level in all five subjects. From there, every child gets a personal plan per subject, adjusted every single day.

Flying through a unit? It accelerates. Stuck on a concept? It's re-taught from a new angle — and a teacher steps in live.

AI builds the plan. Teachers teach the kid. Certified teachers are on screen all morning — our students go to them first, not the software.

"I wondered if fewer hours each day might put me behind students in a traditional school — it wasn't true. I moved faster through subjects I understood well and took more time where I needed it. I learned more in less time."

The questions every parent asks

Is 2 hours of academics really enough?+

Yes — because it's 2 hours at your child's exact level in every subject, with zero time spent waiting on a class average. Unbound Academy students learn 2.8× faster than the national average, measured by NWEA MAP Growth. And the school day is still 8–2: academics are the morning, real-world skills are the afternoon.

Is this a real public school?+

Yes. Unbound Academy is a tuition-free Arizona public charter school. Students take Arizona's state assessments, teachers are certified, and enrollment is open to all eligible Arizona students in grades 4–8 — students of all abilities welcome.

Will my kid make friends?+

Afternoons are built for it — live project workshops, clubs, and quarterly in-person events across Arizona.

What's my role as a parent?+

Your biggest job: make sure your student is online, camera on, and ready to participate each day. When they show up connected, our teachers can truly get to know them and provide the interventions and supports they need to be successful. We work in partnership with you — you'll have a portal to check their progress anytime, and we keep an open line of communication so we're always on the same page.

How does virtual school work?+

Unbound Academy is a tuition-free, virtual charter school that allows students to learn faster and more efficiently while leaving time for what truly matters — exploring their passions, playing, and developing real-world skills.

Morning academics: students master math, reading, writing, and science in just two focused hours using 2 Hour Learning, an AI-powered system that personalizes learning to their level.

Afternoon exploration: students have the freedom to spend their afternoons pursuing their interests — whether that's coding, art, game design, sports, entrepreneurship, or simply being a kid.

Collaboration & social engagement: students interact with peers through virtual clubs, group projects, discussion forums, and school-wide events.

Who is eligible to enroll?+

Students in grades 4–8 who reside in Arizona are eligible to enroll. Students must provide proof of identity (e.g., birth certificate or passport) and proof of Arizona residency (e.g., utility bill, lease agreement) within 30 days of enrollment.

Homeless or Unaccompanied Youth might be exempt from the documents above. Please contact our admissions team.

What are the fees to attend?+

Unbound Academy is a tuition-free public charter school.

What technology and device requirements are there for students?+

Unbound Academy will provide a laptop at no cost to the student to be used for school and learning purposes. Unbound Academy will also provide support for all school-related software and platforms. If an issue arises, students or parents can reach out for assistance on the school platform. There are no other technology or device requirements.

What are the attendance and participation requirements?+

Students must log in daily from 8 AM to 2 PM and actively participate in their academic sessions and workshops. We are able to see what students are working on at all times and will be able to report to parents attendance rates and exactly how students are spending their time.

When does the governing body meet?+

In compliance with A.R.S. §38-431.02, all notices of the meetings of the Governing Board of Unbound Academic Institute will be posted at least 24 hours before a board meeting on this website. Such notices will indicate the date, time, and place of the meeting and will include an agenda. In the case of meetings held through technological means, the notice will include a link for the public to observe and, if public comment is permitted, direction on procedure for making public comment.

Meeting notices, agendas, and minutes are posted on our Governing Board page.

How do I schedule a tour or classroom observation?+

Visit our Tours & Events page to join an info session or request a supervised classroom observation.

It's time to find out.

Applying is free, takes 10 minutes, and doesn't commit you to anything. School starts August 3 — students can start any Monday.
